Webcam Frequently
Asked Questions
Q:
When I click on the webcam link, I get prompted for a username/password
combination, but after putting in my login credentials I keep getting
prompted for the same information.
A:
You are either not entering the correct username/password values or you
haven't been setup yet. If you have received a confirmation email indicating
that you have been setup then use the values provided in the email - ensuring
that you follow case sensitivity. For example, if your username is "jimmydean"
then you must enter all lowercase letters. There will be no spaces within
your username or password.
Q:
After clicking the webcam link and logging in, I get taken to a page,
but nothing is displayed.
A:
This is frequently caused by first-time visitors not having installed
the necessary Active-X component. If you are using Microsoft's Internet
Explorer then either a dialog box will be displayed prompting you to install
the necessary components OR a bar at the top of your browser page will
prompt you that a necessary Active-X component is needed. Follow the prompts
to install the necessary software and try your request again.
Q:
After clicking the webcam link and logging in, I get taken to a page,
but nothing is displayed (different from above).
A:
ACA's webcams run off of non-standard TCP/IP ports. If accessing the webcams
from an office, your network may be blocking traffic on these ports due
to proxy or firewall settings. If accessing the webcams from your home
computer, you may have a personal firewall blocking these ports. For business
networks, you may not be able to gain access if your network policy prohibits
such usage, but if using at home then try disabling your Firewall temporarily
in order to determine if that's the cause. After verifying your firewall
restrictions, you can configure it to allow access to specific ports that
we use. You can contact us for the specific TCP/IP ports used for your
particular child's classroom.
Q:
I've installed the Active-X components, but I'm still not able to see
a picture. Instead, all I see is a black box indicating, "Loading..."
A:
This may be due to you not having the necessary Active-X browser options
set correctly. If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, perform
the following:
- First, go to the
menu items: Tools | Internet Options | Security (tab) | Custom Level
- Next, scroll down
until you see the ActiveX control and plug-ins settings.
- Automatic prompting
for ActiveX controls can be set to Disable (Internet Explorer
v6.x only)
- Binary and
script behaviors should be set to Enable (Internet Explorer
v6.x only)
- Download signed
ActiveX controls can be set to Prompt
- Download unsigned
ActiveX controls can be set to Disable or Prompt
- Initialize
and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe can be set to Disable
or Prompt
- Run ActiveX
controls and plug-ins should be set to Enable
- Script ActiveX
controls marked safe for scripting should be set to Enable
- Press the OK button
until you are returned back to the original browser page
- After changing
the settings, shut down Internet Explorer, and try accessing the webcam
again.
