Our Beginning - Did you know …..?
* Our school was established as a ministry to Lake County children by Mid-Lakes Christian Church in the fall of 2004 after research of other private Christian schools in Florida.
* The school board chose the name "Adventure Christian School" (ACA) because their goal was for students to find their daily academic learning to be an adventure at this school.
* The first semester we began with 11 students in Pre-Kindergarten for 4-year-olds, or Kindergarten for 5-year-olds.
* We had two paid teachers, but our experienced principal donated his work the first year to save on costs.
* The first semester the church and the school were still located in Leesburg, FL on 1.3 acre of ground.
Curriculum - Did you know …..?
* All teaching is from a Christian worldview by using the time-tested A Beka curriculum, with some use of the Principle Approach curriculum as well.
* Over time the continued use of our curriculum typically finds students placing 1 to 2 years ahead of the national norms on SAT and OLSAT annual testing. As the public schools do, we test our students annually to see how our teachers and students are faring in teaching and retaining knowledge.
Thrift Store - Did you know …..?
* We also established an associated thrift store ministry in Tavares, FL on route 19 which we named Adventure Thrift Center.
* All work is done by volunteers and all proceeds, above rental and utility costs, help fund the academy.
* ATC has continued to produce more funds for the academy each year with the volunteer base gradually growing to over 50 people.
Our New Facility in Tavares, FL - Did you know …..?
* By the 2nd semester of 2004 we had relocated to our brand new facility in Tavares, FL located on 15.5 acres.
* This facility had a large sanctuary to seat 500, a Chapel to seat 65, many classrooms suitable for daytime use by the school, a full-sized indoor gym, and a large outdoor sports field.
* This improved location allowed the school to grow rapidly, adding several grades each year, with 100+ students enrolled by 2008.
Staff and Student Growth - Did you know …..?
* By the enrollment period for the 2009-2010 school year, ACA has two paid administrators, and two paid administrative assistants working in the school offices.
* The school offers K-3 to 9th grade in 2009-2010.
* Each year thereafter the school will advance to cover one more grade until we offer K-3 to 12th grade by 2012.
Additional Construction Project - Did you know …..?
* In the fall of 2008 we were able to complete a construction project to open 12 new classrooms for use by the church and school.
* Two flags flying near the school office mark the new construction area.
* ACA definitely has room to grow because of the classroom project being completed.
